Walk to Jerusalem Let's try again to walk to Jerusalem and back during the 6 weeks of Lent. We will begin on Ash Wednesday February 17, and will end on Easter Sunday April 4, and our congregation will be walking a total of approximately 6,247 miles.
How can you participate? Sign up on the board in the Narthex and log your miles each week. You can also call or email us your name and miles, if you are unable to come into the church. This will not require you to participate in a group, or to walk at a certain place or time. You can walk on a treadmill in the privacy of your own home if you prefer. For those who can not walk well or at all, you can receive credit for 1 mile for a 20 minute exercise session, whether you swim, stretch, cycle, dance, etc... Here are some examples of distances in our area. If you walk in the mall about 5 laps around is 2 miles, 10 laps around the YMCA track is 1 mile, 4 laps around the Middle School Otter Stadium track is 1 mile, and 1 lap around Lake Alice is 1.1 mile. What a wonderful way to promote physical activity, and connect it to our spiritual health.
30 Hour Famine, March 26-27 More than a billion people suffer from hunger each and every day. We're doing it for a mere 30 hours, will you join us?
We will begin fasting at 6a.m. on Friday, March 26. Everyone will have an opportunity to come to the mall and package Kids Against Hunger meals from 4-6p.m. Registration will begin at 6p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church and the Famine will kick-off at 6:30p.m. The rest of the famine will be filled with the chance to make an impact as we go without food for 30 hours. The famine will break at 12 noon and you will be on your way by 1p.m. Saturday.
There is a sign-up sheet on the Kiosk in the Narthex, there is no charge for the event but we are asking participants to try and raise what they can for World Vision's 30 Hour Famine. There will also be a participants meeting/project Wednesday, March 17 at 7:30p.m. in the Youth Room.
